Meet Becki and Laura
We are Dr. Becki Welsh and Laura Martello—friends, colleagues, counselors, educators, researchers, and passionate believers in the healing power of connection.
Our friendship began three years ago, but it did not take long for us to discover a shared passion: helping people understand what lies beneath behavior and equipping them to build stronger, healthier relationships. Since then, we have spent countless hours studying, researching, discussing, refining, teaching, and living out the Needs-Connection Model.
We have also spent many of those hours laughing.
Our work together reflects what we believe about connection: meaningful growth happens when people feel safe, known, supported, and able to be fully themselves. That is the atmosphere we seek to create in every training—one that is content-rich, clinically grounded, spiritually meaningful, highly practical, and genuinely enjoyable.
Our Shared Mission
We believe every behavior tells a story and every person has needs that shape how they connect, grow, trust, and respond to the world around them.
Through the Needs-Connection Model and Sequential Developmental Attachment Theory, we help counselors, parents, educators, ministry leaders, and other helpers look beyond behavior to identify the unmet needs and developmental disruptions underneath it.
Together, we bring research, clinical experience, developmental understanding, attachment theory, neuroscience, trauma-informed care, and Christian faith into a model that is both deeply meaningful and immediately practical.
We do not simply teach the model. We continually practice it—in our faith, our families, our friendships, our professional relationships, and with one another. Our collaboration has become a living example of one of the central truths of the NCM:
Connection is an experiential process, not simply a technique.
